No, not a post about death, but something almost as bad. I'll set it up for you.
I was finally getting around to selling my old computer. "Hurray!" I thought, "I'll just hook up my external drive to it, copy the files I want off it, and then reformat." Perfect! Easy as pie.
Things went smoothly during the install, and I happily rebooted my computer. It wasn't until I tried to install something else that I noticed something was amiss.
My heart sank.
It would seem in my haste, I selected the wrong drive, and managed to reformat the drive that had everything on it.
My Music.
My Pictures.
My Schoolwork.
My contract work.
My backups.
Gone.
I quickly hit the 'net and found a program to restore the files. I think I managed to get about 60-75% of them back, but my school papers (the ones I didn't post online) seem to be forever condemned to the bit bucket. I've managed to lose a big chunk of what I've done in the last five years within the space of 20 minutes.
